Aura Industries, Inc. introduces Speedman Jr., a single station manifold for 47 mm solid phase extraction and filtration discs. Speedman Jr. incorporates Aura's patented (1) all TeflonTM, unbreakable disc holder. Sample introduction is achieved through either an open filter bell or through a suction filter bell which employs a sample aspiration tube (see photo). A luer adapter allows the use of luer tipped devices such as SPE tubes and SpeediskTM extraction discs. Extracts are collected in fully visible 22 ml. vials.
The three piece filter holder tightly seals the disks in their periphery preventing wicking and/or air entrainment. Independent research (2,3) has shown that sample introduction via an aspiration tube is over ten times faster than via decantation into an open filter bell for samples containing particulates. The all Teflon construction permits the use of aggressive elution solvents and cleaning procedures. Modular construction of Speedman Jr. permits the ganging of two or more units which can then be operated from a single vacuum source (see photo). Applications include EPA methods 506, 515.2, 525.1, 549.1, 550.1, 553, and 1664. (1). U.S. Patent # 4,523,934 (2). Professor Larry Taylor and Dr. Dale C. Messer, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, report a 12.3 fold increase with the suction filter bell and aspiration tube as compared with the open filter bell and decantation for samples of estuarine water. (3). Dr. Nancy Szabo and Professor H. Anson Moye, University of Florida, report the superiority of Speedman in numerous applications. Speedman and Speedman Jr. are the Trade Marks of Aura Industries Inc. Aura Industries Inc., 545 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10018 (212) 290-9190 fax: (212) 290-9191 - email: info@aura-inc.com
